Our client’s vision is to achieve an inclusive and diverse firm reflected in a parity of women and men at senior levels. The starting point is concern about what they perceive to be the significant female attrition of women as they progress in their careers resulting in fewer women being promoted into more senior roles in the firm.
WDI is carrying out a collaborative, exploratory inquiry to understand at a deep level why there is not a balance of women represented at senior levels. We are working with women at all levels in the firm, involving them in one-to-one conversations and facilitated sessions to surface themes. Building on the synthesis of these insights and working with Partners, the Diversity Committee and the original collaborators, we are co-creating the final insights on the hot spots and barriers for women advancing in the firm. This process of deep listening and inquiry creates a ground swell of energy around the topic and a shared understanding about where the effort for change could be most rewardingly focused. This will then feed into a further collaborative discussion to agree scope, specific initiatives and a road map for moving forward.
The confidential and open approach has given us the opportunity to look at this issue in real depth and this in turn has revealed some surprises. The collaborative nature of this approach means the energy in this firm is being used in the positive directions and the leaders are engaging with, rather than rejecting, these findings and creating real ownership of the changes that will help deliver a diverse and inclusive culture.
